The Mayor of the City of Eastlake wanted to revitalize the City
by doing something daring... build a minor league ballpark that would
draw visitors and revenue from far and wide. This ballpark would be
home to a Class AA team to the Cleveland Indians, however they didn’t
have a team, a team name, a logo, or even a finalized stadium plan
when Studio Graphique was brought on board.
Hired by DLR Architects out of Tampa, Studio Graphique reviewed the drawings
and met with the Director of Operations for the facility. Starting with
a blank slate, Studio Graphique’s designers devised an Americana
theme that conjures up images of baseball in the early 1900’s.
The concept was immediately selected and set the direction for the stadium
décor. Once the team name was determined via a competition, the
logo created by Minor League Baseball was designed to compliment this
theme and palette.
Studio Graphique’s responsibilities included establishing sign
type needs and the development of a wayfinding system for the facilities
and grounds. Studio Graphique designed parking lot vehicular and pedestrian
signs, main entry gate identification signage, signs for other public
areas such as the ticket window, concourse concession stands, section
identifiers, restrooms, first aid, stair wells & suites, as well
as room identification signs in the administrative offices and Clubhouse
area.
The wayfinding program included parking lot traffic plans and directional
signs and numbering sequences for suites, offices, and seating sections.
The stadium sign program is A HIT! The News Herald did a feature story
on the sign program and fans love the clever restroom signs depicting
silhouettes of players in old-fashioned uniforms. Studio Graphique was
hired again by the City of Eastlake to create a wayfinding program for
traffic from Routes 2 and 90 to the stadium and for a banner program
for Classic Park, the plaza outside the Eastlake Ballpark.
